Have you ever noticed how healthy people just seem to feel better? It is not just a coincidence – active people really do have more energy, greater strength, less pain, and a better mood than those who are not in good physical condition. Scientific research reveals the reasons why healthy people feel vitality, exuberant, and lively.

Better Metabolism through Natural Energy

Healthy people have better metabolism. At peak performance, the human body does a good job of converting food calories to instant energy, and uses this natural energy in the most efficient way possible.

Less Pain Means Better Mobility

Exercising causes your body to release the stress hormones epinephrine and norepinephrine that, even in small quantities, can energize you. During physical activity, your body also releases endorphins that trigger feelings of happiness in your brain. This is why a brisk walk around the block makes you feel better when you are upset, and why lying in bed can actually make you feel sicker.

Chronic illnesses often result in pain that can make an unhealthy person feel so bad that he cannot work, go to school, or take care of his family. Mayo Clinic says that back pain is one of the most common reasons people miss work, for example, while the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says that arthritis limits the activities of more than 22 million people in the United States. Sore muscles and joints feel terrible. Fortunately, advanced medical care including chiropractic care, physical therapy, and lifestyle changes help these individuals get healthier and feel better.

Because they do not suffer pain or stiffness when they move, active people have fewer physical limitations than do people with certain illnesses. These physical limitations can restrict a person’s ability to engage in the basic aerobic and muscle-strengthening activities that will make her feel better.

Healthy People 2020 objective PA-2.4 is the leading health indicator for physical activity. It tracks the proportion of adults who meet current Federal physical activity guidelines for these types of activities. Healthy People 2020 established a baseline for measuring aerobic and strength-building exercise of moderate intensity for at least 150 minutes per week, or 75 minutes per week of vigorous intensity plus two or more days of muscle-strengthening activities per week. According to those standards, 22.3 percent of people without physical limitations could meet those guidelines but only 10.6 of adults with physical limitations could meet the standard.

Healthy Lifestyle

One of the reasons healthy people feel better is because they consistently make decisions that lead to a healthy lifestyle. Nutritious food, regular exercise, sleeping well, and avoiding excessive alcohol consumption all help you feel better.

Quitting smoking naturally boosts your energy levels. Smoking siphons your energy by causing insomnia. Tobacco smoke increases pulse, blood pressure, and stimulates brainwave activity that can prevent you from falling asleep.
